Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated is a non-profit, public service organization. Founded on January 13, 1913 on the campus of Howard University by 22 college-educated women, Delta Sigma Theta remains at the forefront of evoking change around the world.
The North Manhattan Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was chartered on December 13, 1980 and has successfully impacted lives and communities within the Washington Heights area and beyond through the sorority’s principles of sisterhood, scholarship and service. North Manhattan Alumnae Chapter is a movement, not a monument that prides itself on delivering innovative programming with a far-reaching impact. These programs are developed under the sorority’s 5-Point Programmatic Thrust:
∆ International Awareness and Involvement
Some of the chapter’s notable programs and activities include: Annual Health Symposium and Backpack Giveaway; most recently collaborating with the First Lady of New York City, Chirlane McCray in the Sisters Thrive Initiative, which is bringing awareness and fighting mental illness; Social Action Initiatives which empowers, promotes and protects the rights & privileges of every human being; Small Business Crawl supporting small local businesses within our community and celebrates entrepreneurship; Awarding Scholarships, NMAC has given close to $200,000 to over 30 students who have attended over 25 colleges and universities throughout the United States.
North Manhattan Alumnae remains steadfast in exemplifying our biennial theme, “joy in our sisterhood, power in our voice and service in our heart.” NMAC is home to over 200 Sorors and if you are a Soror looking for a chapter to call home, we invite you to join us.
