A Season of Legacy: Sisterhood. Stewardship. Service. Impact.

Greetings and welcome.

​

It is both an honor and a privilege to serve as President of the North Manhattan Alumnae Chapter during a season centered on legacy. As I reflect on the strength, dedication, and unwavering commitment of the women who have built and sustained this chapter over the past four decades, I am reminded of something true: we are not simply maintaining a chapter. We are tending a legacy!

Founded on January 13, 1913, on the campus of Howard University by 22 visionary college-educated women, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated is a nonprofit organization committed to sisterhood, scholarship, service, and social action. For more than a century, Delta women have stood at the forefront of creating meaningful change, advocating for justice, and uplifting communities around the world.

Chartered on December 13, 1980, the North Manhattan Alumnae Chapter has spent more than four decades rooted in Washington Heights and Inwood, with an impact that extends far beyond our immediate community. Through service and advocacy, we have demonstrated time and again that Delta is not a monument to be admired from a distance. It is a movement that continues to transform lives.

We hold ourselves to a high charge: Innovative Programming With a Far-Reaching Impact. All that we do is grounded in the sorority's Five-Point Programmatic Thrust:

∆ Physical and Mental Health
∆ Political Awareness and Involvement

Our chapter's signature programs reflect the full breadth of that mission: the Annual Health Symposium and Backpack Jam, Spring Bloom Scholarship Brunch, Financial Fortitude workshops, Social Action and Human Trafficking Awareness initiatives in partnership with the Manhattan District Attorney's Office, and cultural celebrations honoring Black History Month, Juneteenth, and Hispanic Heritage Month, among others.

Education remains a cornerstone of who we are. Through our scholarship program, the North Manhattan Alumnae Chapter has awarded more than $300,000 to over 50 students attending colleges and universities across the United States. These investments reflect our enduring belief in the transformative power of education and opportunity.

​

Today, NMAC is home to more than 200 dynamic and dedicated Sorors who bring their talents, expertise, and passion to this work every day. If you are a Soror searching for a chapter to call home, we extend a warm and open invitation to join us.
